The 2011 Canberran Trackable Race Rules

The 2011 Canberran Trackable Race is a race for geocaching trackables, strangely enough. :)

Although the trackables will be racing from Canada back to Australia, this is a race for points not for distance. Points will be given for meeting goals and completing tasks. The race will be one year long, with point tallies at the end of every month. The trackable with the most points at the end of the race wins.

The 2011 Canberran Trackable Race event is also a sister event to the GCGV Track Me Launch Event, being held in Canada.

The 2011 Canberran Trackable Race is proudly sponsored by Geo-What? Geo-Stuff!.
(These rules are mirrored at http://www.geowhat.com.au/?p=351)

Entering the Race

The race will actually start at an Event (GC# TBA) on the other side of the world in Victoria, BC, Canada! Registration for the race will take place at the 2011 Canberran Trackable Race Event (GC2JNCM) and we will be asking for a gold coin donation per trackable to help cover the shipping costs. Due to the fact that geocoins are more likely to go missing, we have decided NOT to allow geocoins in this race, just trackable tags. All trackables entered into the race must be new trackables: therefore will start with a zero point balance. All trackables entered into the race must be new activations and its first drop MUST be the Trackable Race Event (GC2JNCM).

There are two ways to enter the 2011 Canberran Trackable Race:

If you already have an un-activated trackable:

  1. Activate your trackable at home.
  2. Attach your trackable to a traveler/hitchhiker.
  3. Drop your trackable into the 2011 Canberran Trackable Race event (GC2JNCM)
  4. Bring your activated trackable to the Event and register it into the race.
  5. Do not forget to have your trackable’s picture taken.
  6. Leave your trackable at the event (GC2JNCM). Geo-What? Geo-Stuff! will ship them to Canada.
  7. Wait for the race to begin!

If you want to purchase a trackable at the event:

  1. Purchase your trackable tag at the event (Cost: A$7.50)
  2. Attach your trackable to a traveller.
  3. Register your trackable (fill out the form provided).
  4. Do not forget to have your trackable’s picture taken.
  5. Leave your trackable at the event (GC2JNCM). Geo-What? Geo-Stuff! will ship them to Canada.
  6. We’ll provide you with a card with the tracking number and activation code. You’ll need to activate your new trackable and check it into the event as part of your “attended” log (your trackable will need to be activated before it can be sent with the others to Canada).
  7. Wait for the race to begin!

We’re also requesting a gold coin donation per trackable entered into the race.  This fee will go towards the shipping of the trackables to Canada as well as the printing/laminating of the challenge description cards we will attach to all trackables.  Any left over money will be applied towards prizes for the wrap up event.

Starting the Race

The actual start of the race will take place at an event being held by the Geocaching Community of Greater Victoria (GCGV) in Victoria, BC, Canada (GC# TBA) This means that all trackables will be starting at the same time from the same place giving each trackable a fair and equal start. Starting at this event will also help spread the word of a trackable race from half way across the world.

Ending the Race

The end of the race will not be determined by a finish line, but rather a finish date December 7th, 2011, 11:59 pm local (AEDT) time. At this time, all the points will be tallied and double checked and a winner will be announced at a wrap-up event December 10th, 2011 in Canberra (TBA at a later date).

General Race Rules

  1. Dipping (or visiting) is not allowed. However, we can’t stop this from occurring. So how do we handle a dip? If a dip occurs, any points earned from the dip will not be tallied, including pictures, borders, etc. In some cases, this can result in serious point losses. All trackables will have an attached tag that states the No Dipping (or visiting) rule.
  2. Once the race has officially begun in Canada, contestants in the challenge are forbidden from handling any racing trackable. This is done to prevent people from cheating by intentionally moving other entries to hinder their travels. All trackables will have an attached tag stating that they are in the 2011 Canberran Trackable Race.
  3. Contestants are encouraged to follow their own trackable’s movements. Each month, the race standings will be updated with the scores for all entries. If you feel that your entry’s score is incorrect, or you feel that you we have miscalculated, please contact the race organizer for assistance, along with details.
  4. There is an inherent risk in releasing any trackable that it might go missing. If this happens, unfortunately you are out of the race, unless it suddenly reappears before the competition ends. For this reason you are encourage to keep on top of your trackables movements to prevent this from happening.
